The Public Schools as
Sexual Indoctrination Centers
Dear Friend of Families,
Battles over school curriculum content are raging across the world. At the center of this battle is the cultural clash between those promoting a secularist, amoral view of human sexuality where anything goes, and those promoting abstinence before marriage and fidelity in marriage. The prize is the minds of our children and the values they will take with them into adulthood.
Where same-sex marriage is legalized, the push to promote promiscuity and the homosexual lifestyle through the public school curriculum is the greatest. Indeed, upon what basis can one oppose it if homosexual unions are sanctioned by the government? Schools are increasingly claiming that they must take into account the diverse makeup of the sexual proclivities and lifestyles of students’ parents when developing curriculum. After all, the argument goes, they are taxpayers too.
This past week, there were two developments in the U.S. that illustrate this growing problem. My friend and former neighbor, Michelle Turner, leads a group called “Citizens for Responsible Curriculum” in Montgomery County, Maryland. They just lost a court challenge to a new curriculum that promotes homosexuality as healthy and normal. This curriculum will now move forward in Montgomery County. Among other things, children in the school system will now be indoctrinated with the message that homosexuality is equal to heterosexuality and that those who believe otherwise are bigoted and “homophobic.”
In California, families are reeling after Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed four anti-family bills into law, two that mandate the indoctrination and vigorous promotion of homosexuality to children through the public schools. Parents are outraged and are now working to pass a referendum to overturn the worst of these bills, SB 777. (See below) Click here to see a disturbing example of a school policy in Los Angeles regarding bathroom and locker room use of boys who want to be girls and girls who want to be boys.
As noted in a previous message, governments in some countries such as Spain are trying to mandate the promotion of promiscuity and the homosexual lifestyle through a standard nationwide curriculum. Other countries such as Mexico are letting parents and school administrators battle it out at the local level.
At the UN, we commonly see contentious negotiations regarding what “responsible sexual behavior” entails. This usually results in schizophrenic conference outcome documents promoting condoms for children on one side and abstinence on the other.
Studies show that children and teens do not consistently or effectively use condoms even when taught how. In many cases, youth who engage in “responsible sexual behavior” end up pregnant or with a life-threatening, sexually transmitted disease such as AIDS.
Across the world, anti-family activists are claiming that children, youth and adults have “sexual rights” that allow them to engage in promiscuous sexual behavior. And of course, these activists expect governments to pay for the inevitable negative consequences.
These and many other examples I could cite, underscore how important it is for parents across the world to become more aware of what their children are being taught in school. Activists target our schools because they know they are effective indoctrination centers. Unless we stop them, anti-family groups will succeed in indoctrinating our children in values and behaviors that will cause great harm to both our children and society.
We must be vigilant, or they will achieve their agenda by default.
Do you know what is being taught in your public schools?
Sincerely,

Sharon Slater

Californians Organizing to Block
Homosexual Indoctrination Bill
Parents and pro-family advocates across California are organizing to block SB 777, a bill just signed by governor Schwarzenegger that mandates that California schools indoctrinate children that homosexuality and transgenderism are normal and acceptable lifestyles and behaviors. These Californians are especially outraged because Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed a virtually identical bill sent to his desk by the legislature last year.
A California pro-family group, Capitol Resource Family Impact is organizing a referendum drive to block this law from going into effect. To succeed, they will have to quickly gather 500,000 valid petition signatures to get it on the November 2008 ballot.
Family Watch International strongly supports this ballot referendum effort. We urge all Californians to contact Capitol Resource Family Impact and volunteer to help in any way they can. We also urge those who live in other states to forward this newsletter on to everyone they know in California with a personal note urging them to get involved.
For better or worse, California often serves as a bellwether for other states in the U.S., so all Americans, no matter where they live have a direct stake in this fight.
Washington Briefing:

Abortion Debate Impacted by 4-D Ultrasound Technology
The use of ultrasound technology is affecting the public debate on abortion. It has been especially advantageous to the pro-life cause in the United States, and as the technology spreads to other countries, the pro-life movement worldwide is likewise affected in a positive way. The 4-D ultrasounds provide amazing, lifelike images of unborn children, even detailed facial features that help show the personhood of the children in the womb. Read more here.
Study Shows Law Has Little Impact on Abortion Rate
A survey by the World Health Organization and the Alan Guttmacher Institute (the research arm of Planned Parenthood) has reportedly shown that the number of abortions worldwide declined from nearly 46 million to under 42 million between 1995 and 2003. However, Steven Mosher of Population Research Institute (PRI) says that Guttmacher’s global abortion estimates are “simply bogus.” Mosher maintains abortion statistics are unreliable in all but a few developed countries. Read the Guttmacher press release here. Read PRI’s response here.
Male Gay Teachers Abuse Students Most Often
The Family Research Institute has conducted a survey of news stories showing that in the seven English-speaking countries surveyed, incidents of teacher-student sex are most often perpetrated by male homosexuals. Of the stories that made the news in the last 27 years, 43 percent of the teachers who engaged in sexual relations with a student were homosexual. Read more here.
California Governor Signs Homosexual Indoctrination Bills Into Law
To the dismay of pro-family groups and parents throughout California, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law four anti-family bills, including two that will require all California public schools to portray homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality in a positive way to children beginning in kindergarten. Last year, virtually identical bills were vetoed by the governor who was in the middle of his reelection campaign. The Campaign for Children and Families reports that SB 777 prohibits any instruction or school-sponsored activity that promotes a discriminatory bias against “gender” (including cross-dressing and sex changes). For a detailed analysis of the bills click here.
Maryland Court Supports Outrageous Sex-Ed Curriculum
The Montgomery County Circuit Court has ruled that students throughout Maryland should be instructed that homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism are normal and acceptable behaviors. Contrary to scientific evidence, the curriculum teaches that homosexuality is innate. It also suggests that those who hold traditional religious beliefs about homosexuality are “homophobic.” Read more here.
Study Concludes Abortion Consent Laws Cut Teen STD Rates
A study to be published in January in the Journal of Law, Economics and Organization has found that state parental consent laws help to reduce high-risk sexual behavior in teens, thus dramatically reducing by 10-15 percent at least one sexually transmitted disease – gonorrhea. Parental consent laws require that a parent be notified or grant their permission before a minor receives an abortion. Read more here.
Anglican Divide Over Homosexuality Has Worldwide Audience
Many mainline Protestant denominations are watching with interest to see how the disputes over homosexuality within the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion play out. The controversial issues include whether to allow openly homosexual clergy and whether to officially recognize the unions of same-sex couples. Also in question is how to interpret the Bible’s teachings on homosexuality. Read more here.
Billboard Attacks Massachusetts Legislator for Switching Gay Marriage Vote
A pro-family organization from New Jersey, The National Organization for Marriage has erected a billboard in Springfield, Massachusetts that compares Massachusetts state representative Angelo J. Puppolo to Judas Iscariot and Benedict Arnold. Puppolo, a freshman Democrat from Springfield changed his position on same-sex marriage, voting “no” to allowing a question on the ballot regarding an amendment to the state constitution that would ban the homosexual unions. During his campaign, Puppolo said he would support the ballot question. Read more here.
