If you had told me years ago that CNN, MSNBC, NPR, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Guardian, Foreign Policy, and other media sources woud publish articles attacking Family Watch International—and personally attacking me as its president—I would have told you that was impossible.
If you had told me that this global smear effort would be orchestrated and amplified by organizations like the Human Rights Campaign and openDemocracy, funded heavily by George Soros–connected entities, I would have thought you were crazy.
And if you had told me that the global abortion consortium—International Planned Parenthood, Ipas, and others—would feel threatened by our relatively small organization, I would have laughed.
But here we are.
For over a decade now, the liberal media have been smearing Family Watch as a “hate group” for promoting and protecting the family. And, over the last few years, as FWI’s reach has grown globally and FWI has become even more effective, especially in protecting children from comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) (see StopCSE.org | Protect the Innocence of Children), these attacks have only escalated.
However, the attacks became even more personal when they came after my husband’s job at Intel. Some of the media and their aligned puppet NGOs defamed and falsely accused my husband of being behind Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act, and even unsuccessfully petitioned Intel to fire him to cut off support for our family!
No matter what evidence is given them (see below), this multi-media echo chamber is relentless in falsely claiming that FWI, myself, and my husband supported harsh anti-homosexual laws in Uganda, Kenya, and Ghana—laws we have always opposed.
The truth is so upside down that it would be laughable … if it weren’t so serious.
When CNN ambushed me in 2023 in a UN hallway, thrusting a microphone in my face to accuse me of “spreading homophobic laws across Africa,” I turned, laughed, and simply said the truth:
“Absurd. Absolutely absurd.”
And it is.
The President of Uganda himself wrote a letter confirming that “Madame Slater had nothing to do with originating, canvassing for or supporting the enactment of this law.” (See President Musevini’s letter here.) Uganda’s former Minister of Health and Member of Parliament Sarah Opendi wrote a similar letter. (See her letter here.) But these facts are ignored because they don’t fit the media’s contrived narrative about the motivation behind Uganda’s law.
So why the global campaign to paint us as villains? Because the media does not want African anti-homosexual laws to be deemed organic. I will explain more about that in my next email.
